Description: Vita Plus is a broad spectrum nutritional supplement supplying optimal amounts of free radical scavenging nutrients with ample quantities of trace and ultra-trace nutrients necessary for nutritional support of healing mechanisms, immunity functions, and the manufacture of antioxidant enzymes.

Uses:As a daily multiple vitamin and mineral supplement.

Actions: Protection against pathologic free radicals is provided by both dietary and endogenous antioxidants. When functioning properly, these antioxidant systems suppress excessive free radicals reactions, allowing healthful biological effects without unwanted cellular and molecular damage. The enzymes Catalase, Superoxide Dismutase and Glutathione Peroxidase dampen free radical chemical reactions. Supplemental nutrients reinforce endogenous antioxidant defense since these enzymes require certain vitamins and trace elements to be activated. Free radical quenchers can also improve the immune defense responses of both T-cells and B-cells. The main nutrient immune system stimulants and anti-free radicals are the vitamins A, C and E, beta-carotene, the trace elements selenium, manganese, potassium, zinc molybdenum and iron and the sulfur containing amino acids, Cysteine and Methionine. The B-complex vitamins are important for cellular maintenance and potentiate the action of antioxidants. Vitamin C and the bioflavonoids increase capillary resistance to damage by free radicals. Membrane stabilizers include PABA, inositol and choline. Calcium, magnesium and potassium are vital for cell stabilization and proper functioning. Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium. The human body lacks an effective enzymatic defense against the very destructive free radical precursor, excited state singlet oxygen. The most important protection against singlet oxygen is dietary intake of beta-carotene (pro vitamin A). Beta-carotene deactivates atoms of singlet oxygen and can therefore prevent damage to DNA and other cellular constituents. The trace elements copper, zinc and manganese are essential to the Superoxide Dismutase; selenium is essential to glutathione peroxidase; iron is necessary for catalase and in several forms of peroxidase. Molybdenum is known to be present in several enzymes and it is also necessary for iron utilization. Many anti-oxidant nutrients vital to free radical protection also serve as natural chelators. Vitamins C and E and the amino acids, cysteine and methionine, help rid the body of toxic metals such as lead and abnormally located iron and copper, all free radical catalysts. The administration of the sulfur-containing amino acids, methionine and cysteine, may ameliorate the toxicity of over 40 compounds.
